SOOTH MAIN TRUNK
VISIT OF INSPECTION
(By Telegraph—Press Association) BLENHEIM, This Day. In connection with plans to complete the South Main Trunk, an inspection of the line as far as it has progressed' and of the country that is yet to be covered, will be made during the weekend by the General Manager of Railways, *Mr G. H. Macklev. who will be accompanied by a number of departmental heads and expert advisers. It is understood the party will comprise Messrs Mackley, H. Valentine, assist-ing-General Manager, G. J. Bertinshaw, chief engineer, G. T. Wilson, superintendent of transportation, A. W. Wellsted, commercial manager, W. Bishop, chief accountant, P. R. Angua, locomotive superintendent, and E. S. Brittenden, district traffic manager, Christchurch.
The object of the tour, it is understood, is that heads of the Department may make themselves acquainted with the country the lino will traverse and with such technical difficulties as may be encountered in construction. Opportunity would also be taken to go further into the earning capacity of the line.
