YOUNG NURSES
PROTECTION FROM T.B. SOUGHT BY HOSPITAL BOARD (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. Protection of the health of nurses undergoing training was discussed at a meeting last night of the Wellington Hospital Board. The following motion was passed:— “That it be a recommendation to the Minister cf Health that young nurses should not he compelled to undergo a period of training in the tuberculosis wards of hospitals.” Mr R. Holland, who submitted the motion, claimed that - some safeguard had to be introduced to protect young nurses and those with whom they came in contact. Young nurses were inclined to be not so careful as adult nurses and to take risks because they did not understand the dangers. They, should not be subject to such risks till they were of adult age at least. Dr. A. R. Thorne, superintendent, invited to express a medical view, said evidence seemed to show that infection suffered by young nurses was' often present before, though the strain of nursing might hasten development. The subject was, however, really a mechnical one for the Health Department * ■ The motion was passed unanimously.
