A FINE RIDE

HAMILTON TO WELLINGTON MEMBER OF NELSON CYCLING CLUB A very fine cycling performance was accomplished when J., Verran arrived in Wellington yesterday morning from Hamilton, after being two days on the road. He left Hamilton late on. Monday and arrived in Wellington early yesterday morning, covering approximately 346 miles in a total riding time of 31hr 2min. Verran came via Te Kuiti-Rae-tihi-Wanganui, a road generally avoided by those keen on making fast time. The journey from Taumarunui to Raetihi was particularly trying, the road being in a very bad condition following recent heavy rains. Cyclists have often complained of the state of the road between Bulls and Sanson, but Verran found that this stretch was not to be compared with that between Taumarunui and Raetihi. However, he negotiated it without mishap, though naturally it made a considerable difference to his performance [’am the point of view of time. The Hamilton rider had his time checked by responsible officials at each place where! a stoppage was made. Mr Verran, who is a member - of the Nelson Athletic and Cycling (Hub, intends' later to ride from Nelson to Dunedin with the object of returning a figure which might induce some other cyclist to attempt to lower it. Mr Verran, arrived in Nelson to-day from Wellington.
