BIG GAME FISHING

GOOD SPORT OFF MAYOR ISLAND SWORDFISH AND MAKOS (By Telegraph—Press Association) TAURANCA, TTTis Day. There has been excellent fishing oil’ Mayor Island the past few days, a total of eleven swordfish and two makos being landed by parties from the launches Virginia, Naomi and Ramona. The total is a record for New Zealand to date. The Virginia’s catch comprised four swordfish all caught on the same day—S. Randell (Tauraiiga) two swordlish, li. Snodgrass and 11. Turner (Tauranga) one each, the weights being 3051 b, 3001 b, 2021 b and 2411 b. All gave a fine display, the heaviest lighting 2} hours.

The party report numerous fish while there are enormous schools of small fish all round the island. The launch Naomi landed four swordfish and one inako as follows: Dr. Stuart, a swordfish, 3011 b; D. Honna, swordfish, 2151 b; W. Paterson, swordfish, 2781 b; and Olding, swordfish, 2901 b, The mako which

was caught by lianna has not been weighed. Weather conditions are ideal. The Ramona’s party landed three swordfish and one mako. 11. Mollgaard landed two, weighing 2501 b and 2101 b; and Hunt, a 2801 b swordfish and a small mako. Mollgaard and Hunt experienced a real thrill when two swordfidi hooked simultaneously. Fortunately the fish kept the lines clear “but the anglers were handicapped as they were the only two on the launch. Both fish eventually succeeded in throwing the bait.
