HONOUR FOR MISS BATTEN
FIRST WOMAN TO RECEIVE BRAZILIAN ORDER (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, 29th January. Mr J. E. Barron, Consul-General in Australia for Brazil, has received a copy of Die Brazilian Government’s Gazette which announces that the President has conferred on Miss Jean Batten (he Order of the Southern Cross of Brazil.
Miss Batten is thus officer of an order which is usually conferred on diplomats and distinguished visitors. She is the first woman to receive • the honour.
