10,000 HANDS EMPLOYED
LARGE SUM TO BE FOUND
(Received 16th February, 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, 15th February. The “Evening Standard” describes the Francis Willey Company as the biggest wool merchandising firm in the world, owning fifty undertakings, and employing 10,000. Outside England it lias mills in .Poland- and the United States. There are 3,000 employees at Bradford. Mr C. H. Underwood, a director, told the ‘‘Standard” that the creditors include two local and sonie London banks, whose representatives meet on 21st inst., when the firm has to find a large sum or make arrangements with certain creditors. "We are hoping it will be all right, but cannot tell which way it will go. Trade creditors will not be affected.”
The business was founded at Bradford in 1836 by the present Lord Barnby’s grandfather. The firm established a prosperous township at Southbarre, in the United States.
