SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP
MISHAP TO MILLER (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) TORONTO, 30th August. Miller was showing Joe Wright, senior, a sculling trick and upset his shell, a chill following from immersion in icy waters of Lake Ontario. His physician said Miller would not he able to meet Pearce for about a week. PEARCE OBJECTS TO POSTPONE* ME NT SUGGESTS BARRY AS SUBSTITUTE (Received Ist September, 9 a.m.) TORONTO, 30th August, Pearce was reported to-night to have objected to a postponement- of the race with Miller. It was said lie asked that the race should be raced with Barry as a substitute. Pearce is said to have declared that lie regulated his training so as to be at the peak of his form on Friday night, and if the race was not forfeited by Miller someone else should compote. Pearce was said to have packed up and left for Hamilton. Barry appeared at the Canadian National Exhibition Snorts headquarters saying he was notified by Pearce, to make arrangements Jfor a substitute race
Officials said.they could not consider such a proposition. _ Barry expressed displeasure, claiming that Pearce’s request- inferred that everything had been arranged. Barry said lie had planned to catcli the Empress of Britain and sail home on Thursday night, and had disrupted his plans to return to the Exhibition.
