ENGLISH TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA A STRONG SIDE (Unitod Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, 18th August. The Australian Lawn Tennis Association states that England definitely agreed to send Ferry, Hughes, Lee and Wilde to Australia. Perry and Wilde will arrive at Sydney from America on the 3rd November, and Hughes and Leo from England on Bth November. Perry, Wilde, Turnbull and Quist will play matches in New Zealand two weeks before their arrival in Sydney.
U.S. WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIPS
(Received 19th August, 9.35 a.m.) NEW YORK, 18th August. At Forest Hills in the quarter-finals, Miss Jacobs defeated Miss Cruickshank 11-9, 6-4. VINES OUTPLAYED (Received 19th August, 9.10 a.m.) NEWPORT, 18th August. Vines, who has won the Casino singles championship for the past two years, was defeated to-day by Shields 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 in tho semi-finals. Shields widely outplayed Vines.
