£7OO WORTH OF SILVER ON THE WANGANEI.LA FOUR ARRESTS MADE (By Telegraph—Press Association) .WELLINGTON. This Day. About £7OO worth of silver, comprising mostly half-crowns, was confiscated by the police- as the result of a search carried out on the Huddart-Parker motor ship Wanganella, before her departure for Sydney, yesterday afternoon. Four members of the ship’s company were arrested, and will be charged in the Police Court with attempting to export silver over the value of £2 as laid down by the Finance Act, 1932. REMAND. GRANTED WELLINGTON, This Day. Four members of the crew of the Wanganella were charged before Mr Page, S.M., with attempting to export silver in excess of £2. The names and the amounts they are alleged to have attempted to take are:—James Frcoston, a steward,. £252 11s; James Bovne, a seaman, £26; Henry Morgan, hairdresser, £200; Douglas Jack Strath, fourth officer, £62 12s. The Crown Prosecutor asked for a remand and this was granted, bail being fixed at £SO in the case of each accused, with one surety.
