WINTER RELIEF
GOVERNOR-GENERAL’S FUND
A RENEWED APPEAL (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, 7th June. A renewed appeal on behalf of the Governor-General's winter relief fund, which was inaugurated after consulting withthe Government and chief municipalities two months ago, was made by Lord Blpjisloe at the opening of the city mission.
“Tim object of our appeal for this fund,” said Lord Bledisloe, “was to enable gifts in kind as well as in money to be made during the winter to meet cases of exceptional distress and to be administered impartially and with careful discrimination by a small business committee in Wellington which could not possibly be suspected of any partisanship, political, sectional, or geographical. Difficulties and delays have unfortunately arisen in connection with the appointment of the committee, and consequently the allocation of relief from this fund has been unduly postponed. However, two days ago the committee was appointed and the work of discriminating in the allocation will now proceed without further delay.
“Generally speaking,” added Lord j Bledisloe, “in all areas of great need, such as this Auckland area is, money or goods which are forthcoming from the area will be allocated to cases of exceptional distress within the area. In these circumstances I want to make an earnest appeal on behalf of her Excellency and 1 myself to all those who are inclined to support onr*winter relief fund, not to defer unduly their contributions, but on the clear understanding that they do not abate by one iota their support to this mission or any other existing relief organisation which needs just now every penny which generous, kind-hearted people can give them.”
