STATE ADVANCES
WHAT IS THE POSITION? (From “The Mail’s” Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, 3rd March. Mr A. M. Samuel (Government, Thames) suggested to the Minister of Finance that lie make a statement as to the immediate policy of the State Advances Department regarding applications for loans from settiers and workers. “Many persons,” he said, “are buying properties and incurring legal and other expenses in expectation of tlie raising of loans from the State Advances Department. If there is no hope of such loans being granted, will tlie Minister say so and make the position perfectly clean?” The lion. W. Downie Stewart said lie hoped to make a general statement at an earlv date dealing with the question raised.;
