FRUITGROWERS’ ASSOCIATION ANNUAL DANCE ANNUAL MEETING WEBTDALE TENNIS CLUB (From Our Own Correspondent) After a lapse of eight years the local Fruitgrowers’ Association decided to again hold the annual dance which the older residents will remember were in previous years such an outstanding success as' to be considered the social event of the year. This year’s dance took place at the Mapua Packing Shed and proved a great success. A strong committee under the leadership of the president of the Association, Mr W. A. Hop kirk, put in a strenuous day on the Wednesday making the necessary arrangements, with the result that the 80 couples who attended were greeted with a very prettily decorated hall, made up mostly of greenery and bunting, jui excellent lloor for . tuuicing, stimulating music under the direction o Mr Harold Williams, and a bountiful supper. The duties of M’s.C. wero m the capable hands of Messrs W. It. Argue and Mr T. Milson. Datfcing was continued until i a.m. and the consensus of opinion wag that the Maliana Association should spare no effort to carry on the annual function. WESTDALE TENNIS CLUB The annual meeting of the Westdale Tennis Club was held at the residence of Mr H. Thawley. The President Mr A. E. Jackson, presided over a lull attendance and the minutes of the previous annual meeting were read ana confirmed. The statement of receipts and expenditure which was adopted showed a credit balance of £(• w ie viewing the year’s operations Mr JacKson referred to the energetic manner in which the retiring secretary, Mr n. Thawly, had carried out Ins duties. Other members referred to the good work done by Mr Thawly. and a resolution of appreciation was carried ny acclamation. Mr Edyvean referred to Mr Hopkirk’s work as captain of the club. He stated that Mr Hoplurk bad proved to be a most conscientious and unselfish captain, bis work contributing in large measure towards the continued success of the club. After some discussion it was deemed to again affiliate with tlio Motueka D - trict Lawn Tennis Association, on the motion of Mr Brunt, seconded by M Edyvean. The question of laying down a hard court in addition to the two grass courts now available was discussed, the matter bemg finally left to the committee to investigate and reno>'t at a later date. ... , The meeting then terminated and a pleasant two hours were spent with cards, and supper daintily served by the hostess, Mrs Harold Thawly. V, for euchre were won by f lB f- £• Jackson and Mr \V. R. Heddy, Miss L. Argue and Mr J. Goutts. A very pleasant evening was brought to a close with three cheers for the host and hostess.
