SCOUT NOTES

THE TAIIUNA TROOP About three months ago a Scout troop was started at Tahuna under the leadership of Mr Luck, who formed the troop committee and put tilings on a working basis. The Ist Nelson Rover Grew offered their services in any branch ot Scout training, winch was gladly accepted and up to date the tuition ot the boys lias been in their bands. Having too many engagements .Mr Luck has found it necessary to resign Iron) the position of Scoutmaster and owing to the lack of a suitable local man the Commissioner, Ur. W. D. S. Johnston transferred Mr Scaifo of the Anzac Scout group to Tahuna. The troop is fortunate in getting the services of a capable and experienced man who already lias had over 7 years service as a warranted officer. A Cub pack lias also been established and is making splendid progress. Mr Ron. Lipscombo. of the Anzac group (Cub section) lias been appointed Cubmaster. Fourteen boys were invested as Scouts and 8 as Cubs at the Investiture ceremony which was conducted by the Commission tor the Scouts and Cubinastcr H. J. Flat! for the Cubs. After presenting the badges the Commissioner gave an address on the aims and objects of Scouting, and stressed the need for every Scout to “Do bis best” to “Be Prepared” for service. At the close, votes of thanks were accorded to the Commissioner, visiting Scouters and Scouts, and parents and friends. An apology was received from the District Scoutmaster, Mr Toomer, who was unable to attend. Three hearty cheers were given with true Scout gusto for Mr Luck in recognition of wliat be had done in establishing the troop. Supper was served, and the Grand Halm, followed by the National Anthem brought an enjoyable evening to a close.
