In a clash between the police and a mob of 5000, led by Communists', three negroes were fatally shot and several others wore seriously wounded. The trouble was precipitated with Communists who objected to the eviction of a woman, and started moving her furniture back into the home. Detectives arrested the Communists, setting off a spirit of anarchy. Masses swept forward against the detectives, who summoned police reserves. Some in the crowd are reported to have used revolvers, knives, and razors. Eventually tin, police, using clubs and pistols, forced the mob to retreat, leaving behind three dead.
