ORGAN RECITAL
BY MR H. S. CLAUGHTON
An organ recital which was greatly enjoyed by a good attendance of the public was given by Mr H. S. Claugliton, F.G.C.M., L.IKC.L., at the School of Music last evening. Of a well-select* ed programme perhaps the items' most enjoyed were “Idyll” (Coleridge Taylor) and Stojowski’s “Melody in A Flat.” The organist’s rendering of these two items was given with sympathy and understanding and was greatly appreciated by the audience. Another item which found much favour was the vocal solo “Ave Maria” (Bach-Gounod) by Miss T. Stewart, with violin, organ and piano accompaniment. The effort was a very fine one, and a recall was demanded. Miss Stewart and Mrs Claughton were heard in a vocal duet, “Crucifix” (Faui’e) in which the voices blended most pleasingly. Additional items by Mr Claughton were: “Choral Prelude,” improvised on tune “Abends” (H.S.C.); “Concert' Piece” No. 1 (Horatio Parker); “Suite Gothique,” “Choral,” “Minuet,” “Priere” (Boellmami); and (a) “Pastorale,” and (b) “Grand Choeur” (C. J. Grey). _ The concert concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
