HAREOUR BOARD MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Motueka Harbour Board was held on Friday afternoon, there being present:—F. C. Batchelor, F. C.. Greenwood. D. Haining, C. H. Mackay, A. R. Edwards and C. L. Harvey. . Accounts amounting to £386 15s 6d were passed for payment leaving a credit balance of £1370 7s lOd (fixed deposit £940 6s 4d current account £430 Is 6d.) 1 Prior to taking ’general business the Board proceeded to elect a chairman for the ensuing term. Mr Horatio Everett, who has rendered invaluable service to the Board over a long period was unanimously re-elected, on the motion of Messrs. Mackay and Greenwood.

The chairman, on resuming his seat returned thanks to- the members for the confidence they had placed in him; and expressed appreciation of the kindly feeling at all times shown towards him. In "the course of his remarks Mr Everett also touched on the past history of the Board. - , Arising out of the harbourmaster s report, Mr Mackay said it was pleasing to note that, although very large quantities of export fruit had passed over the Motueka wharf during the past season, there had been an entire absence of congestion. Messrs. Harvey and Batchelor, who were deputed to attend' the address given by Mr W. J. Poison M.P.- reported briefly oh what had taken place at the meeting. . With regard to procuring additional gravity conveyors for use at the wharf, the harbourmaster stated that he would go to Wellington in connection with this matter as soon as possible. The Nelson Provincial Progress League wrote soliciting the Board s financial support for the current year and the appointment of a delegate. A subscription of £lO was authorised, on the motion of Messrs Mackay and Batchelor. Mr Everett was re-appomt-ed the Board’s delegate. The Marine Department asked the Board to submit for the _ Minister’s approval a detailed description of harhour lights defining clearly those which are “occasional” that is those which are shown or placed only when a request for this lias been made for shipping. It was resolved (Messrs Batchelor and Mackay) that the necessary information be furnished by the harbourmaster. The wharfinger (Riwaka) reported that ten launches had entered and left the port during the month. A cheque for £2B 10s was forwarded by the Waimea County Council for hire of certain Harbour Board plant. Subsequent to a brief discussion regarding the increasing of charges for. fresh water'to ships at Port Motueka it was agreed on the motion of the chairman and Mr Mackay, that in future water be charged for at the rate of ss. per 1000 gallons.
