GOOD PICTURES
ENGLFST ARTISTS AT SUTER ART GALLERY
A NOTABLE EXHIBITION
Tho- exhibition of pictures by leading English, artists was re-opened at thq Suter Art Gallery to-day. These very notable pictures were specially selected by the Very Rev. G. F. Askew, Dean of Nelson, while on a visit to Great Britain recently and they have been forwarded to Nelson at his request. Himself very deeply devoted to art, the Dean has selected this method of assisting in the good work of encouraging and aiding art students and widening the interest in art generally. Already several of the pictures have been sold and will remain treasured possessions in Nelson homes. There are, however, many others which will doubtless make a strong appeal to intending purchasers.
PICTURES FOR THE ART GALLERY
Fortunately Nelson has the Suter Art Gallery which the community as a whole can support and enjoy. An effort is to be made to raise funds by means of public subscription for the purchase of at least three pictures for the gallery. Probably most general interest has centred in "The Acorn Gatherers" by Bonomi Warren, which is for sale at 27 guineas. This is a picture well worthy of a place in the Art Gallery and those desirous of assisting may forward their donations to Miss J. Tomlinson, lion, secretary of the Suter Art Society.
Donations will be acknowledged in these columns.
