SUPPORT FOR STERILISATION DEALING WITH MENTAL DEFECTIVES STATEMENT BY DR. It is understood that the Eugenics Society Ims drafted for presentation to Parliament a Bill empowering the sterilisation of mental defectives at the instance of tiie local authority under the Mental Deficiency Act, subject to the approval of the Minister of Health and the Board of Control of defectives, and the last-named to be dispensable where the defective is legally certified. Dr. Arbuthnot Lane declares: “Almost the entire medical profession and the majority of thinking people support the Bill. Sterilisation is the only cure for the serious evil. Continuance of families of mental defectives is utterly unjustifiable.”
