BOXING
BRILLIANT EXHIBITION (By Telegraph.—Press Association) ■"■•"•* WELLINGTON, This V Day. In one of the most brilliant; boxing exhibitions, as distinct from fighting* ever seen in the local ring, Jack Carroll, the welterweight champion of Australia, outpointed Charlie Purdy, the lightweight champion of New Zealand and Australia over fifteen rounds, before an overflowing audience at- the Town Hall last night. The New Zealander gave the Australian a boxing lesson over the earlier part of the journey, showing all his old time cleverness in ducking and side stepping, but' once Carroll' had sighted his elusive target, he more than made up the leeway by'.excellent timing and judgment of distance. There was little between the pair, but Carroll just shaded his brilliant opponent, who appeared to be a shade overconditioned. - " The weights were Carroll 10.3,. Purdy 9 - 12, ''" - -11.
