RICCARTON TRACK NOTES PREPARATION FOR NATIONAL MEETING (By Telegraph.—Special to "Tho Mail") CHRIST/CHURCH, 9th August. At Riccarton to-day Ci'uigmore (J. Dempster) and Umtali (J. Kerr) set out for a school oVer four hurdles. They bumped when rising to the second, Umtali losing Ins rider. Craigmore went on for the remainder of the journey alone, giving a good exhibition. Umtali' was produced again later and jumped four hurdles alone without a mistake. Ta'rleton finished half a dozen lengths in front of Brigadier Bill and Kilburn at the end of a mile, the last seven furlongs taking 1.35. . Wiltshire (Sime), Dubious (Dempster), and Radiate (Tilson) attracted some attention when they went out to' school over a round of steeplechase fences on the.course proper. Wiltshire soon took the lead showing the way just clear of tho other pair over the sod wall, post and rails, and kennels double. Wiltshire then opened out a gap of several lengths from Dubious with Radiate a couple of lengths further back. Wiltshire continued, to" Cutts's fence which he struck dropping his rider, while Radiate fell-'at this fence. ■ Wiltshire set a good pace and his jumping was not always clean even before he readied the fence at which ho lost his pilot. Radiate jumped satisfactorily all through, while Dubious' was responsible for a good exhibition of jumping. Red Fuchsia (K. Baker) and Peneus (A. McDonald) gave a good display in a school over six hurdles with the pace on all tho way. _, . Beau Cavalier • (W. J. ; Bowden) wast given a round- 6n the'sand and; then was 1 schooled, over a circuit of ; steeplechase fences. He swung along at a strong pace over the sod wall, post and rails, And kennels double, jumping all of them boldly. The pace was maintained oyer the next three fences, but after jumping the fence near the carriage paddock he slowed up tjll near Culls's, when the speed was increased and he jumped the big brush at a sound pace. He took off a long way back and appeared to dip on landing. It was a quite good exhibition, and apparently Bowden will .experience no difficulty in accommodating himself to the Riccarton track.

Scion (0. Kerr) and Goldtown (C. Dawson) were companions over the schooling hurdles. ■ After jumping six flights together Goldtown was pulled up, Scion doing two more alone.

Scion easily held his mate, but the pace was not fast. Hyperion (J. Tilson) went out to jump a round of steeplechase schoolin'g fences. After jumping the first he baulked at the> sod wall, losing his rider, and wds not persevered , with. Jt*V*" Starshell will not be racing at the Grand National Meeting. He Jiad an attack of colic a few days ago and it was decided to send him home. '
