PRINCE OF WALES IN FRANCE
ENTHUSIASTIC WELCOME (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 7th August. The Prince of Wales landed iA France to-day to visit the battlefields. Arriving at' Boulogne he was received at the quayside by Major Horton, Mayor, and a body: of o focal British Legion men. He was greeted with loud cheering which he, smilingly acknowledged. After lunching simply at the station refreshment buffet with General Trotter ho proceeded by motor car to Saint Omer, the old British general headquarters, and Bethune. At Bethune the Prince was again welcomed with the greatest enthusiasm, not only by the pilgrims, but also by the focal population. In Market Square Admiral of the Fleet Lord Jellicoe and the President of the British Legion received the Prince on a dais which was bedecked with British and French flags* The dais had been erected in front of the famous belfry of Bethune^ ■,As the Prince reached the square fie was received with a fanfare of trumpets. The Prince thanked the reception committee of the Departments of the Somme and Pas de Calais for. the. arrangements which they had made for the reception of the British pilgrims. The Prince later went on to Lille, where he will stay the night. The Prince of Wales entered thoroughly into the spirit of the occasion. During his visit to France he wore grey flannels and a bowler hat.
To-night he participated in the Community singing of wartime songs at the Lille town hall. , '
