Replying to a. complaint, that, three different telephones had to lie used, arid t •ventv minutes wasted before the exchange could he raised yesterday to put through a fire call by a city resident, the District. Telegraph Engineer says that the delay is mucji regretted, but was due to an extraordinary rush of business at about 10 a.m., due to people making inip.iries by ’phone as to the postponement of the. day’s races. The operators had had more' traffic, than they could handle.
