WELLINGTON WOOL SALES

Messrs E. Buxton and Co., Ltd., have received the following report with regard to the third sale of the season. The attendance of buyers continues very large, every consuming centre being represented on the benches. Competition from the outset of the .sale was very keen and fairly well spread, all sections being eager to secure supplies. It is evident from the tone of the sale that the shortage of supplies of raw material is .111-iking itself felt in conjunction with the revival of business at the consuming end, as the prices paid for< wool in to-day's sale show a substantial advance on those accorded at the December Wellington sale-. It must, however, be taken into account that the wool submitted was, for the most part, in exceptionally dry and light condition, and the actual advance on the scoured basis is really somewhat less than the figures realised in the grease, would seem to indicate. As regards the buying, Bradford was considerably prominent and should have secured a good weight, Ger- - many was also very heavily in the market for fleece wools- as well as pieces and bellies, and came into competition with French operators on most of the latter class. The French buyers were keenly interested in lambs, as were also Australian houses, and local mills were buyers of second grade lambs as well as merinos and some better class halfbreds. Compared with the last Wellington sale prices in the grease show an advance of up to &1 piT lb for good to super crossbreds of .ill grades; Id to lkl on average and inferior sorts; halfbred wools show a rise of Id-.to lfd and sometimes 2d; lambs' wool whs 2d to 3d per lb better, and merino sold at par with prices, sometimes a shade easier than last sale.
