DANGEROUS CROSSING

HAWKES BAY PROTEST (United Preas Association} NAPIER, 30th Nov. _ Repeated representations to the Railway Department, extending over fourteen years, to flag a dangerous railway crossing at Waipukurau or take some other effective means of protecting human life, culminated to-night in a largely attended and representative public indignation meeting, called by the Mayor of Waipukurau. Strong comment was made on the Government’s refusal to take some action, and a resolution was passed asking the Minister of Railways to take immediate steps to comply with the request, and members of Parliament for the district are to be asked to meet the Minister. The Hawkes Bay Automobile Association telegraphed supporting the protest, and slating that as the crossing concerned was on the main road, the question should be treated as a national one. '
