FRENCH MERCHANT SHIPS
SALE RATIFIED (By Electric Telegraph— Copyright) (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association) PARR, Ist- Dee. The Senate and Deputies formally ratified the sale of the Government's 400 merchant ships bought in war time at a cost of 1,450,000,000 francs, which were then in the region of par. Realisation oil a falling franc resulted in a "yt loss of more than a thousand million francs.
