WELLINGTON, This Day. \ charge of indecent assault against Robert Vaughan Venablcs has occupied the Supreme Court for two days, today Mr Sicvwright, for accused, asked the Court to deal with the case in a broad wav. The inference to be drawn. he said, was that a crime had not been committed on the girl. He submitted that the jury should find accused guilty of common assault. Venables, from the dock, said it had been his intention to give'evidence from the witness box. The Judge ndvised accused to consult his counsel before making any address.
Afterwards, accused made a lengthy statement from the dock, the purport of which was that he denied having committed indecent assault. The jury is still out.
Rangiams Frank Martin, middle-aged, was sentenced to reformative treatment for a period not exceeding three years on a charge of indecent assault on a. male.
