PALMERSTON N., 27th Dec. The weather was fine for the opening day of the Manawatu Racing Club’s Meeting. There was a large attendance. The course was in good order after the recent rain. Results :
Tokomaru Hurdles, of 250 sovs; one mile and three-quarters.—B Matu, 9.1, 1; 3 Lady Passenger, 9.6, 2; 1 Enare, 11.3, 3. Scratched: Santiago, Carawock, Sottario, Sir Pam, Rowan. Won by three-quarters of a length, head between second and iiiird. Time, 3.15 4-5. Maiden Plate, of 200 sovs; six furlongs—6 Powhii’i, 1; 3 Hymgrent, 2; 4 Conviction, 3* Scratched: John Nod, Killaddie, Ohorero. Won by two lengths, a neck between second and third. Time, 1.16 4-5. *
Tararna Handicap, of 200 sovs; one mile and 110 yards.—9 Tnoe, 7.11, 1; 4 Panart, 8.13, 2; 7 Catcall, 8.2, 3. Also started: Koauau, Outfit, Asleep, Anchor, Ladykiller. Half a length each way. Won by a nose, threequarters of a length separating second and thitd. Time, 2.37 2-5.
