COLLISION WITH SUBMARINE
AORANGI AT HONOLULU

HONOLULU, 24th Dec.
The steamer Aorangi, en route to Auckland, backed into the United States submarine R 5 and then glanced off, smashing completely through the quarantine pier, wrecking sheds and doing damage to the extent of £SOOO. The Aorangi, which was in charge of t.li e pilot at the time, rvas unharmed, and proceeded on her voyage. Local investigators blame the Aorangi for the collision with the R 5. The submarine was badly twisted and her bows deflected 10 degrees from normal.
