MAGISTRATE CALLED UPON TO DECIDE OWNERSHIP
A pair of Indies' white buckskin shoes was the cause of a defended civil action heat'd at the Magistrate’s Court to day, when Mr T. E. Maunsell, S.AI . v as asked to decide the rather difficult t nest ion of ownership. The parties eoned ited were Winifred M. i ■abiai o%u 'Air \Y. G. Harley) v. Edith M. Plaintiff stated that she purchased the shoes, hut after trying them on at her home found they were too small, whereupon defendant's -. ife (woo was living with her at tlm time) o' end to buy them for 25/-, promising to pay at the end of the month. Plaintiff said she had never worn the shoes; but- alleg ed that she had seen defendant wealing them in the street. Eolith M. Quirk, wife of defendant, said she had only offered to buy the shoes if they Acted 10-r. They did not, but jialintiff mid i(fused to take them hack, telling tier she could burn them if the liked. Witness denied ever wearirr; the .-lots, i'he Magistral', said the cvm. t . c apneai ed to counter-balance, and he would enter non suit.
