Following correspondence was read : From Richmond Borough Council, advising the Board that they may have the use of the stone crusher as soon as their present stock is crushed* From Department of Internal Affairs, enclosing extract from New Zealand Gazette, fixing the amount of principal and interest payable in respect of advances for the erection of workmen’s dwellings. From H. Ooltman, enclosing circulars of the new sanitary closet. From Mr A. It. Tuffncll, submitting estimates and sample of sanitary bucket. Mr Chamberlain reported on the conference ol local bodies, re tar-scal-ing the ltocks Road, repair’s to seawall, and putting a batter on the Cliffs. Mr Chamberlain stated each item was thoroughly discussed, and the feeling of the conference was unanimous with reference to tar-scaling the read, which would cost approximately ±11600; to repair the sea wall, cost about £250; the cost of putting a bat-' ter on the cliff being out of all question, the engineers recommended that a drain bo cut at the back of cliff, field pipes being laid and filled in with stones, this would catch the water and save a great percentage of the slips. The cost would be approximately £250. It was resolved that the Rocks Road be tar sealed, a drain cut at the back of cliff, and the sea wall attended to, at the approximate cost of £2500. After further discussion it was found tar-sealing the road was a permanent repair, but as Motueka and Richmond Borough Councils had appealed again the decision of the Supremo Court judgment, it was decided to put the Rocks Road in good repairin the meantime.

ANAESBROOK OVERHEAD BRIDGE

Mr Chamberlain reported on tho conference of local bodies re overhead midge at Aiuiosbrook crossing as follows :

Dr Gibbs (.President Nelson Automobile Association) said that the road at Aimes brook crossing in its present conoiuon was a great source of danger, and that the width of approaches 24. feet as submitted by the Railway Department was ample for motor cars.

Mr Chamberlain pointed out the dangers that were likely to accrue through the approaches not being wider than 24 feet. This was strongly endorsed by Mr Haycock (Mayor of Richmond). The Waimea County and Nelson City Councils were of the opinion that the width of 24 feet was sufficient-.

Mr Chamberlain moved a resolution, which was seconded by Mr Haycock (Mayor of Richmond), “That the Railway authortdes be informed that the local bodies concerned will only agree to the formation of an approach 40 feet wide.”

This resolution being put to the vote resulted: Ayes, Tahunanui Town heard and Richmond Borough Counr cil. Noes: Waimea County and Nelson City Councils. It was negatived ou the casting vote of the chairman, Mr W. Lock (Mayor of Nelson).

SPECIAL MEETING Present: Messrs C. H. Chamberlain (chairman), F. A. Bamford, F. W. Greenslade, L. Ingham, G. T. Robins, and T. J. Wilson. The Board having thoroughly discussed the approaches to the overhead bridge at Annesbrook, it was moved by Mr Bamford:— ‘ ‘That this Board, while being desirous of expeditug the erection of the overhead bridge at Annesbrok crossing, is of opinion that the width of the approaches to the bridge, 24ft, is altogether inadequate for the amount of traffic the road carries, and enters its emphatic protest against the approaches being less than 40ft in width, but will not offer any obstruction to the erection of the bridge on that account if all local bodies concerned agre in writing to pay their quota to the cost of widening the approaches should public opinon at any ftiture time demand suoh widening.”
