OBITUARY
OLD TAKAKA RESIDENT
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr George B. Galey, a very old and respected settler of Takaka, died last week at the great age of 83 He arrived in New Zealand in 1857* and first came to Takaka in 1881, taking a farm at West Takaka. He lost his wife about a year ago, and has. been failing in health ever since. He leaves a grown up family of four sons and six daughters, all married and settled in life. Mr Galey was one of the old type of settlers that helped to make this country. Sturdy and independent, blunt of speech and honest as the day. Ho ran away to sea at the age of ten years and battled away on bis own from then on, suffering shipwrecks and hardships ot all kinds and manv interesting tales of the sea and the old gold digging days could the old fellow tell when lie was in the humour.
