EVIDENCE AGAINST CRIPPS

(United Press AssoCia : n )

TIMARU, M,ay 20... Harry Cripps, a single man, 27 years of age, was charged at the Magistrate's Court at Geraldine to-day with the wilful murder on April 28th of Adam Stevenson,* aged 60 years, a fellow-worker on an out-farm, where they were living together in a wheeled hut. Cripps was committed for trial. The. police had a }}rim a facie case that accused struck the deceased five blows on the head wit ha gorse knife just outside the galley. He drew a sack over his head, placed the body in a dray, and carted it at night about a mile and a half. He placed the body in the gorse in the Orari river-bed, where it was •found on April 30th. A neighbour, who had visited the camp after dark, said he saw the horse and dray close to the galley, and something lying on the ground behind the dray, but he thought it was firewood. A light was coming from the galley (not towards the dray), and Cripps shut the galley door. The police case included the evidence that the two men did not get en well together, the elder complaining of Cripps' inefficiency, and Cripps of Stevenson's grcwling at him. The case was completed by the confession of Cripps to Detective Fahe}' on the evening of the arrest, as follows : "I am sorry I didn't tell you on Tuesday. I was kneeling* down chopping sticks when Adam hit me with a crowbai 1 over the shoulder. I hit him with a stick on the head, and I washed his face. I was going to take, him down to . you fellows, but I got frightehe*cl, and carted him to the river-bed." Constable O'Crady. who found the body, said that Stevenson's face was clean when he found him. A medical witness said that' the -ice-used had a slight bruise on the • ■•? aiders on the evening of the 30th ; out it was too slight to have been caused crowbar. SECRET OF CLEOPAT:i.-> H WONDERFUL HAIK. DISCOVERED AT LAST IN AN OLD MUSTY BOOK.' PRODUCES STARTLING GROWTH OF NEW HAIR ON MAX'S HEAD AFTER TEN YEARS OF BALDNESS. In examining some of the old musty books in one of the Italian museums of antiquities, an American traveller accidentally noticed in Latin the words "To grow beautiful hair." A closer inspection revealed an old- hair formula, and below it was noticed that it was the •for-' inula that Cleopatra .used, and to which ehc owed her wonderfully beautiful, long, thick, heavy hair, which had much to do with her being regarded as the most beautiful woman in the world. Curiosity led the traveller to copy the formula, and he gave it to a friend who had been bald for ten years. After some difficulty the friend- got the formula made up with some slight modifications

by a chemist. and after using it six weeks his head became entirely covered with a startling growth of new hair. This so impressed him that he gave the ! formula to several medical journals and newspapers, and it was extensively printed by them, and within the last few years many thousands of persons owe their beautiful heavy hair to this simple ancient, inexpensive; formula., ali though most of them probably have no idea of how it was first discovered. For ! the benefit of readers we print the formula again : —1 ounce Lavona de Compceee, £ dram Menthol Crystals, 3 ounces of Bay Rum. Apply night and morn- ; ing, and rub well into the "hair roots, but avoid applying where hair is not desired. This formula- can be prepared by any chemist.*
