Regarding the fiuit industry in Now Zealand, the ••Evening Post" gat hern from authoritative sources that in five years' time front to-day ih<- output of the orchards in tiie Dominion will be a million and a-half cases, and this will be enormously increased each year thereafter.
It is estimated that the area to be planted in commercial orchards during the coming season of 1914 in different districts is as follows:—Whangarei. 35
acres; North Auckland. 350; South Auckland. 55; Auckland Suburbs and Poverty Bav. 25: Waikato and Bav of Plenty". 43 :" Hawkc's Bay. 150; Taranaki. 20; Manawatu and Wairarapa. 60; Hutt. 7; .Marlborough. 500; Nelson. 1000; Christchurch Suburbs. 4; North Canterbury and Westland, 2CO ; South Canterbury. 100 ; Otago and Southland. 300; total*. 2849 acres. This will bring the estimated total acreage in fruit in Now Zealand to 41.64(5, an increase cf 12.759 acres in six years. Of this total the increase in the Nelson -district contributes over onethird.
Up to date the export ofj fruit .from New Zealand is in the neighbourhood of 8-5.000 oa.-os. and it is estimated that the 110.000 mark will be reached before the close of the season.
