HARMONIC SOCIETY'S CONCERT.

Between 100 and 120 persons assembled in the Oddfellows' Hall last night at the Harmonic Society's social. Owing to the president (the Rev. O. R. Hewlett), not being as well as he would like to he, Mr. Peart took up the duties in his stead. The first part of the social consisted cf games, consisting of "An Autograph Race," winners, Miss Hewlett, 1, and Miss Knapp 2. No. 2: "Egg in Spoon Race" (held between the teeth), Mr. Murray Mead 1, and Mr. Wm. Cole 2. No. 3: "Word-Building,"' winner, Miss Earl. No. 4 : Potato Race, winner, Miss Higgins 1, and Mr. New-th 2. No. £: A large nunrber of articles (general groceries) tied up in little bags, guesser of most, Mr. S. Baigent 1, and Mr. Newth 2. (Prizes were given to all winners). These items were interspersed with songs bv Misses Barry and Knapp and Messrs W. Cole and P. Palmer, accompanied by Misses iPalmer, 'Martin and Pearlass. Anv amount of fun and much laughter and noise indicated perfect arrusement. The chief item of the evening was the presentation to ths conductor. Mr. Edridge, of a valuable .pair of field glasses'; to Miss Palmer, pianist. 0 £ -a silver-mounted sce.nt bottle, , of large size; and another to Miss Cora Martin, the hon. S3cretary. Air. Edridge spoke fir himself and for the ladies. He thanked them for saich a useful present; also he thanked all the members for the wav they had worked, and -more ■'ispeciallv Messrs Newth, C. Mead, and Fawcett. Misses Palmer and Martin, Mesdames Peart, Hewlett, and C. Mead. He deeplv regretted the absence cf their president. If the Society was to go on next year, and they desired hi.s services, he would favourably consider their Tequest if he was in'the district. Some 48 persons present signified their intention of becoming members next vear. Surmer followed, after which Mr. Campbell Bird took charge, and acted as MC fr ~v th" dnnces, which were indulged in till rtidnight. We regret to learn that the Rev. O. R. Hewlett, Vicar cf Wakefie'd, has seen fir- to send in his resignation the B:«-hor>, owing to ill-health. Nothing has boon definitely decided upon as yet. and we sincerely trust he will soon be restored again -so as to'be able to enrry on his duties. His district is a. verv large ove. and althoijgh he has the ass:sta-nce of the Rev. W. H. Curie, it is almost too- much for them. I' en-tails a lot of ridi'ng antf driving in all weathers.

The men working on "Jimmv Lee'" (railway) bridge, are almost finished, the riveters having yet sc-n-e work to d"; after which fh-'.s bridge will then be ready for the larger and heavier engines to be placed on this line.
