BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Borough Council held Us usual •rronthlv meeting on Tuesday, -November sth. There were present: His Worship the Mavor (Mr. T. S. Wratt) in the chair, Crs. Staples, P. G. Moffatt, Gate, and S. Grooby. Accounts amounting to £SO 5s 8d were passed for payment. Correspondence was read as follows: From the District Health Officer re the sanitation matters at the rear .portion of the Post Office Hotel and the Motueka Hotel, and requesting the Council to take action.—Resolved that the recommendation be brought to the notice of the occupiers of the same hotels, requesting •therr to complv therewith as soon as possible

From the Secretary of t-he Nelson Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, r e the appointment of an inspector under the Infectious Diseases Act. —Received. On the n-otion cf the Mayor, seconded bv Cr. Moffatt, it was resolved that a letter of condolence Ibe sent to Mrs W. Ryder and family in their recent bereavement. It was resolved that in the opinion of the Council it would be advisable to defer the use of the road-grader until the autumn-, and that the County Engineer 'he so informed. It was resolved that the foreman have the works at the protective works finished according to specification. Resolved that the letter dated September 25th, from the secretary of the Nelson, Diocesan Trust bs acknowledged. a~d that they be infonred that, steps will ibe taken to" widen Greenwood-street as arranged, as soon as labour is available. Resolved that the Council offer to Cr. Brougham the site of the present pound, provided that he will give another suitable site and erect the .pound. Crs. Moffatt and Grooby were elected a committee to revise the -by-laws, and it was resolved that a special meeting oe held on the 12th inst. to consider the revision.

Resolved that the attention of the trustees of -the Motueka Institute be called to the fact that the doors of the building qpen inwards, and that for the safety of the public the Council would respectful'y request that they be altered so as to open outwards. The meeting then adjourned.
