A BRAVE STEWARD.
ATTEMPTS AT RESCUE IN MIDOCEAN. ATTACKED BY AN ALBATROSS. { United Press Association.! AUCKLAND, April 9. On the vovagc of the steamer Surrey from Liverpool to Auckland, a. seaman fell overboard when the vessel was hsilfwav between Capetown and Australia. A saloon steward named C. Leon de Lance immcdiatclv dived overboard to his companion's rescue. He unsucciJssfullv -searched for the missine man, whoso name, was Porter, and suddenly he was viciously attacked by an albatross, and had great difficultv in beatunr it off. De Lance was rescued with difficulty, but no trace of Porter was found.
