At the Fire Brigades' Conference a committee wa)s set up to consider ways and means off improving the fire and ambulance record, and a subsidy of £25 was voted for this purpose. The secretary was voted an honorarium of £IOO. The election of officers resulted: President, Lieut.. Arthur Leaver (Westport), •unopposed; vice-presidents, Deputy-Su-perintendent Salmon (Dunedin), and Captain Campbell (Timaru); treasurer, Superintendent Spriggins. Th e . installation of officers, and the presentation of the past president's certificate, and life membership badge to President Boyes, concluded tho conference. .. ACCIDENT INSURANCE SOCIETY. ROTORUA, March 5. The annual meeting of the Fire Brigades' Association Accident Assurance Society was held this evening, Captain Hansen (Westport) presiding. The report stated that the brigades affiliated numbered 90, and the membership 1600. Contributions amounted to £l9B lis 2d ; total receipts £273 12s 7d; payment foi accidents £2lO lOs; total accumulated funds £.1723 Bs, an increase of £6l 0s "d for the year; management fund, receipts, including £26 19s 5d carried forward, £6B 9s sd, expenditure £3O 10s 7d. Ihe position of the Society warrants the adoption of a small scale of rebates, as last year the brigades did not draw any benefits. Fifty per cent, of the total contributions receive 25 per cent, rebate; over 50 per cent., 10 per cent, rebate ; 75 per cent., no Tebate. The election officers resulted: President, Captain Bellringer (New Plymouth) ; vice-presidents, Captain Rolston (Ingle wood), Lieut Mulvihill (Kumara) jtreasurer, Fireman Scantlebury (Reefton),- secretary, Fireman T. J. Watts (Newmarket).
