AEE CATHOLICS PBEFEBBED TO PBOTESTANTS? A 'CONSTABLE'S ALLEGATIONS ■ WELLINGTON. Tuesday. The sectarian question was raised at the Police Commission by Constable Simpson. He explained thai he had asked for v .return showing the numbers of Eoihan Catholics ana Proteßtants in various grades of the force, and information about., changer by members from one religion tt another; but the details had not beer given to him on the ground that hi was a constable. He suggested thai Protestants had not been treated a; well as Roman Catholics. .The Commissioner, Mr Bishop said that he deprecated in the strong est possible way going into this sec tarian business. . • Witness replied: , I say that Wf Protestants have been passed over. Mr Bishop: Because .of your to ligion? . Witness: I don't say that. • Mv Bishop: There you are. • You must know if it is a question of religion, and not of the merits of the men.
