THE POLICE COMMISSION.
(United Press Association.) FUBTHEB EVIDENCE' AT "WEIILINGTON. ■ : WELLINGTON., Tuesday. The Police Commission resumed its inquiry this morning. Constable Simpsftm controverted tne statements of Mr J. P. Arnold, MP., regarding the conduct of members- of the force, in Wellington. Mr Edwin Arnold, visiting Justice at Wellington gaol, said that, speaking with years of experience, he did not know of a single policeman who had ever harassed an «*x-inmate of a gaol. to a question, he admitted that he had known of exprisoners being dismissed from employment without being able to ascertain the reason. As far as he knew, the police of Wellington -were a very fine and honourable body of men. '■Conflicting evideuco was given by two or three witnesses concerninp ■the quality of the- physique of pre. sent applicants for entry to the force, compared with that of their predecessors years ago.
