DISTRICT NEWS. STOKE.
The monthly meeting of the Stoke? Road Board was held on Saturdays Present: Messrs W. Coleman (chair-) man), T. ChisnaU, J. E. Bartlett, anfc E. Chisnall. ii Leave of absenco was granted to; Messrs J. Best and H. Jacka. \ The Overseer's report, which was read and adopted, stated that Bell's road had been cleared of the debris washed up by the sea. A bridge on the corner of Appleby road had been renewed; and repairs to bridge at Malcolm's had been effected. Tha bridge on Malcolm 's road leading to the cemetery required repairs. The plate on the bottom was undermined, and the bridge had dropped down. The top plate was also broken. The bridge on Paton's road required repairing, and the culvert on Chisnall 's road required two new pipes. Ruts had been raked in and gravelling done on Station road and Marsden 's road. The work of cutting down bank and culverts in Marsden 's road had been finished. The ditches and culverts in tho latter road required attention before the wet weather set in. The gravelling on the back road at Stoke and on' Quarantine road was not yet finished. The bank at the railway crossing on Quarantine road required protecting with a fence, j O'Brien's road required gravelling, and tho Overseer advised that two waggon loads of gravel bo got from Brightwater. It was decided to endorse the Education Board's suggestion for the oatablishment of an experimental fami in this district. It was resolved that the member for the district sco to the water table at the Soke Railway Station. It was resolved to repair road leading to golf course. It was resolved that Bell's road be widened, and that a wall of stone be built. Accounts amounting to £45 6s 6d were passed for payment.
