OTAGO V. AUCKLAND.

AUCKLAND, Saturday. The Otago versus Auckland football match was played to-day at Alexandra Park under ideal weather conditions and in the presence of some 3000 spectators. Tho contest was the last of the season for .the Ranfurly Shield, and resulted in a victory for Auckland by 11 points to 5. Otago played against the sun in the first spell. * Patton kicking off to near Auckland's 25, the visitors rushed the ball over the line, but Murray saved. The visitors still maintained a slight advantage. Patton attempted a penalty goal without result, Murray relieving, and shortly after Clarke forcer! down. Gillett kicked high from half-wav, Clarke's efforts to save the position being abortive, Butler falling on the ball. Auckland 3, Otago nil. On resumption of play, Gillet got the ball away to Seeling, who made an opening for Morse, who scored, Magee getting the additional points. Auckland 8, Otago nil. Shortly afterwards McGuire got a hot pars away to Gillett who transferred to Murray, the latter scoring. Auckland 11, Otago nil. Halftime was called! shortly afterwards. Auckland had the better of the play on resumption, but Ivemey and 1 itzpatrick broke thresh the ruck seconded by Eckhold, and as the result of a. toiward scramble McDonald scored Otago s first try.
