"RAGGING" IN THE RAILWAY SERVICE.
A COMPLAINT FROM AUCKLAND. [United Pbess Association.] AUCKLAND, Thursday. The Trades and Labour Council carried a resolution drawing the attention of the Minister of Bailwyas to the fact that "ragging" was prevalent in the Auckland railway branch, and asking him to take action in the matter. Mr Peek stated that he knew of instances in which young men entering the engine sheds were so badly treated that they were obliged to leave the service. In one case a young man was stripped and smeared with oil. Mr Eosser said he knew of a case in the carpenttrs' trade in which a boy was stripped and covered with glue.
