Additional business conducted at last week’s meeting of the Rangiora Borough Council included a grant of £2/2/to the Rangiora Dramatic Society. The Council decided to be represented at a conference at Wellington on December 3 to discuss the Gas Workers’ Award.

Application was made for authority to raise a loan of £I2OO to build a house on the Council’s reserve at Lyndhurst. The Town Clerk reported that there had been no objections to the proposal. No special rate would be struck, as the rental was sufficient to cover interest and sinking fund. The management of the Regent Theatre Avas granted permission to shoAv pictures on Christmas Day. A plan of the proposed subdivision of land in Ashley Street for Government houses Avas approved. It was stated that no rates would be paid Avhile the houses Avere being built, or when they Avere unoccupied, but rates Avould be paid Avhile the State Avas receiving rent.
