The Band will provide music.

Council

FESTOONS TO BE ERECTED

Messrs D. Appleby and C. Haigh waited on the Borough Council last week to solicit assistance for Festivity Week. Mr Appleby said that plans were again under way, and a programme was being formulated. Collections had been made from the business-people, and about £24 was in hand from this, and £lB was promised. In addition, the Committee had last year’s credit to work on. He asked that the Council give its usual support to the week as a boost to the town. Festivity Week brightened the town- up and made it attractive. The lucky spot this year would be a decided draw. Mr Haigh said he thought it was conceded that the Week was of great benefit to the town. He knew from experience that people were assured that Rangiora was very much alive when they visited the town during Festivity Week. After the deputation had withdrawn Councillor F. T. Ager said he understood that the main thing had been accomplished, the waiving oF*the peak load by the Power Board. He thought if the Council put up the festoons and lent lamps it would come out to about the same thing as a grant. He moved that this course be followed. Cr W. T. N. Keir seconded the motion and suggested that the Electrical Engineer be given a free hand in the matter of decorations. The motion was carried.
