Women’s Institute Miss J. Croft presided at the monthly meeting of the Ashley Women’s Institute. Miss E. Bowbyes gave a short report on the half-yearly Federation meeting in Christchurch, which she and Miss Z. Beattie attended as delegates.

Mr C. Downing’s offer of a special prize for most points in the best blooms section throughout the year was again gratefully accepted. After the business was concluded Mrs L. E. Rowlett (Christchurch) gave a most interesting address on “Women of Different Nationalities.” A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the speaker. Afternoon tea was dispensed by Mrs J. Scott, Mrs W. Mcßae, and Miss Fairbrother.

Competitions were judged as follows: Shallow bowl of pansies: Mrs W. Drake I, Mrs W. Macann 2, Mrs A. Baird 3 Best bloom: Mrs W. Macann I, Miss E. Bowbyes 2, Mrs A. Baird 3. Sponge roll: Mrs A. Baird 1, Mrs H. Pateman 2, Miss Z. Beattie 3.
