“THE AUSTRALIAN JOURNAL”
Review of the November Issue To choose the outstanding feature of the November “Australian Journal” is a difficult, task, for the issue contains instalments . of two serials, thirteen complete short stories by the best local writers, a number of articles and features, and a section for children. But pride of place must be given to Arthur W. Upfiekl, popular writer of “Wings Above the Diamantina,” “Wings of Evil,” “Mr Jelly’s Bnsiness,” and other successful novels, who presents “ These Things Have Happened.” ’According to announcement in this issue, the author is re-telling in jiarrative form some of the fantastic tales ho has unearthed in old letters, ancient
documents and forgotten diaries. The first story of tho series, “Waudi and the Bilker,” is both curious and enthralling, and, although it is, in a sense, historical, there is nothing of the history book about tho way it is told. It gives promise of being one of tho most intriguing features this sixpenny magazine lias yet presented.
