Presentation To Major Shaw
Committee members of the Whangarci Racing Club paid a tribute this morning to Major A. Shaw, of Auckland, a man whose name is a household word in the racing world in the Auckland Province and, indeed, throughout the North Island. Major Shaw has served the Whangarei club as officer in charge of the birdcage for the past 30 years. He lias also acted in a like capacity over a similar period for all clubs in the province.
His efficiency, experience and energy have won him high esteem over a wide area. TRIBUTE
During his long association with the Whangarei club, he has been closely associated with Mr R. G. Hosking. a past president, and today a member of the New Zealand Racing Conference.*
It was Mr Hosking this morning who spoke on behalf of the club in lauding the magnificent work of Major Shaw.
Mr Hosking traced a brief outline of the club's growth from the days of its infancy and its struggles and strife, until the present time, when it had a high name among the provincial clubs of the Dominion. EXAMPLE
Ho referred to the part played by Major Shaw in this great development and quoted Major Shaw as an example to the younger generation of racing administrators.
On behalf of the club committee. Mr Hosking presented a travelling S'ug to Major Shaw, whose health was drunk to the accompaniment of musical honours.
Major Shaw, in his reply, congratulated the club on its wonderful hospitality and good spirit of cooperation.
Without the assistance of the club committee, he said, he could never have done his job. He thanked the committee very feelingly for the presentation.
