Fraser At Kaikohe Today

KAIKOHE, Fri. (Sp.)—“l threw up my hands in despair when 1 saw that Sir Michael Myers hau recommended £15,000 and his two associates had recommended £61,000 as compensation for the Maori surplus land problem in Northland.” The Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) said this to a fully representative gathering of Tai Tokerau chieftains on the Kotahitanga rnarae this morning.

He was speaking in reply to a welcome preparatory to a discussion on the terms of the surplus land settlement.

On arrival in Kaikohe Mr Fraser and his party visited Northland College where they were welcomed by the pupils and staff in assembly, and were entertained to a morning tea prepared by the duty girls of the homecraft class.

Mr Fraser spoke briefly to the children.

After leaving the college en route to the marae, the Prime Minister called in for a minute at the rehabilitation carpentry training school in Kaikohe.
