Northland College Championships
KAIKOHE, Fri. (Sp.)—The second annual boxing tournament for pupils of Northland College was finalised in the Recreation Hall yesterday.
During the past fortnight, preliminary bouts have been staged and only the finals were left for decision yesterday. Contests were held in nine grades and a total of 67 boys took part in the tournament, including the preliminaries.
For the heavyweight open, a campionship belt was awarded. A cup was available for each of the other grades and trophies were awarded for the best loser and the most scientific boxer.
Boxing arrangements and appointment of officials were handled by the Kaikohe Boxing Association. Referee for the finals was Mr Milton Peryer, of Ohaeawai; for the preliminaries, Mr K. Hart, of the Northland College teaching staff. Judges for the finals were Messrs J. F. Fleming, T. L. G. Johnson and D. B. McGowan; for the preliminaries, Messrs D. Stevenson and Johnson. Seconds for the finals were Messrs L. Allen and W. Tobee, of Kaikohe.
DETAILED RESULTS. Results of the finals were as follows: Heavy-weight open: W. I lona re. .13.3 d Sonny Pehi, 11.7. on a K.O. in the first round. Light - heavy - weight: J Edmonds. 11.11 d M. Robson, 12.0. on points. Middle-weight: J. Hohepa, 10.6 d Pomare Rogers. 11.2, on points.
Welter-weight: H. Sadler. 10.6 d J. Wyatt, 10.6, on a K.O. in the second round.
Light-weight: K. Murray, 0.12, d L. Dale, 0.12, on points. Feather-weight: B. Rogers. 9.0. d O. Paki, 9.1. on a K.O. in the second round
Bantam-weight: L. Bell. 8.0. d M Tua. 0.0. on points
Fly-weight: D. Jones, 0.0. d A. Shelford, 8.3, on a TKO in the third round. Paper-weight: P. Hohepa, 6.9, d B. Peryer, 7.2, on a TKO in the third round. Best loser: B. Peryer. Most' scientific boxer: H. Sadler.
