Alderman's Hurdles

A bad check two furlongs after the start sent the hot favourite, Sir Tavia, right back to the rear of the field in the second event, the Kensington Hack Handicap.

Sir Tavia had got away well with Ballaview, closely followed by Miss Fiona.

After a furlong Miss Fiona held command from Ballaview with Sir Tavia next.

Crossing the top Atonement had hit the front from Miss Fiona, with Auto Queen making a fast move and Sheba and Darnella also prominent.

Auto Queen actually followed Atonement into the straight, with Miss Fiona also handy. Atonement was clear a furlong from home, but Miss Fiona finished brilliantly on the outside to wear the leader down in the last 100 yards and

score by a long neck. / Soeur de Beau, which had also made a forward move two furlongs from home, just beat Sheba for third place in a photo finish. Master Burleigh was next and he was followed by Dcnella, Noble Knight, Dicomet, Auto Queen and Sir Tavia.

Alderman scored a convincing victory in the Huanui Hurdles. He took the lead going along the back the second time after Sir Lindsay had made the earlj running. He was soon five lengths clear and stayed that distance in front till the post was passed. Gay Youth came with a late run to just nose Sir Lindsay out of second money. The each-way favourite, Gavinmor, was fourth, and then came Cyclades, Sunny's Last and Star Dink.
